We left the tiny sand cay at Morris Island and had another mixed day today. Light SE followed by a slightly stronger SSE where we could turn off the engine. Then it dropped off before a NE came in and we finished the day with a nice sail to the Flinders Group off Cape Melville. We are anchored off the south of Flinders Island just off the entrance to Owen Channel, separating Stanley Island.
These islands are continental islands as opposed to sand cays or coral atolls. The anchorage is very protected in the conditions, which are fairly light but we have heard there could be thunderstorms crossing Cape York and coming east. We have seen thunderstorms each night, usually over the land, but so far have not had any come near us. We are well anchored here though.
Still undecided about tomorrow. May go as far as Howick Island tomorrow and then overnight to Port Douglas, or overnight to Hope Island and then a day sail to Port Douglas. Stay tuned....
