Sunday in the Cathedral

Sunday we did a day trip aboard Alishan to visit the Cathedral Cave in the southern section of Bacuit Bay. We anchored off Lagen Island and took our dinghies across the short distance to Pinasil Island where we found the entrance to the hong and entered the cathedral. It is not a big cave but is quite high and as we went in further we could see the opening at the top which allowed a strong flow of air through the cave. It was rather magic inside with the clear water below us and the soaring limestone above us and was indeed very cathedral-like.

We then dinghied back to Lagen Island and went ashore for a wander behind the mangroves - not a lot of life apart from some squirrels and a couple of birds. Bird sightings have been quite disappointing in Palawan - a couple of White bellied sea eagles, some reef herons here and there, sunbirds, the calls of some Palawan crows and Palawan hornbills but not much else. Apart from that it was a good day.
