With spring tides approaching we had quite a fast passage this morning from Airlie Beach to Burning Point on Shaw Island. We also had 10-15 knots on the nose which made for very uncomfortable conditions! Our speed varied from under 4 knots to over 7 knots depending on the turbulence. We had 3 knots of current with us. The wind definitely slowed us down! Very nice here in this anchorage though.
We now have just another 2-day weather window to get further south before more strong southerlies arrive. We hope to leave tomorrow and go overnight to Island Head Creek or even to Great Keppel Island. Conditions on the day will decide. We will have spring tides on Thursday and will be passing Thirsty Sound - the biggest tides in Queensland are in this area and the tide fairly sucks you into the sound or pushes you out! The range there will be over 8 metres on Thursday, a bit less where we will be. At least it won't be against us, just across us.
