Another 193 NM ticked off our distance to run to Brisbane. We left Rosslyn Bay Marina at 0500 a.m. yesterday morning and started off with some good sailing. Had the engine on for a couple of hours in the morning when the wind dropped away for a bit but then sailed again until about 0430 this morning before had to start the engine again. The most sailing we have done for a long time!
It was pretty lumpy from about sundown yesterday due to the following NE wind and the SE swell which was still apparent. By the time we got into Hervey Bay the wind had started to increase and by the time we made our way down the Great Sandy Straits to anchor just north of the shallows the wind was blowing 20-25 knots. It is forecast to drop down this evening when we are expecting some isolated thunderstorms.
We will leave early in the morning to catch the 0600 high tide over the shallows at Sheridan Flats and continue on through the rest of the Straits. We will probably then hang about this area until at least Saturday. There is a one-day window tomorrow which might get us as far as Mooloolaba but then Friday it is turning SE once again! We may be able to get away on Saturday to go overnight to Moreton Bay.
