Cruising is all about changing plans when necessary! Last night we continued on from Fitzroy rather than stay there and glad we did. Our plan was to continue to Little Pioneer Bay on Orpheus Island but this morning we changed our minds and planned to continue on to Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island. Our arrival time would have been 1700 at the earliest. On reflection we decided that it was going to be too exposed to the north easterlies so a last minute change saw us take a turn to port and we are now anchored in Juno Bay between Orpheus and Fantome Islands, in the Palm Group. It is only a few miles further on from Little Pioneer Bay but gives good protection from NE and SE.
We have had conflicting weather predictions overnight. Our Grib weather files are showing fairly strong south easterlies by Wednesday, however, the BOM continues to predict north easterlies. Who do we believe? We will probably stay here a day or two until the predictions sort themselves out and we are sure we can do the overnighter to Gloucester Island, at the top end of the Whitsundays, with northerlies. If the north easterlies continue there really aren't too many options on that leg so an overnighter it will be.
We have done 152 NM since leaving Port Douglas so a good slice out of our southward travels. The sky is overcast and gloomy but the wind is quite light at the moment. Friends tell us they have caught some nice fish in here so maybe it's time to put out a line.
