Following farewells to our Fukuoka friends Mena-san and Masashi-san yesterday and then a yachtie's night out last night with the crews of Alishan, Bannister, Sunstone and Tweed, it was with some sadness that we said our final farewells this morning on the dock. Other Fukuoka friends Matani-san, Sakae-san and Junko-san arrived with gifts of food for morning tea and lunch (one of which we will have for dinner), the dock lines were untied and we left the marina. Not a very elegant departure but we were soon on the flat seas in light winds motoring most of the 46NM to Hirado harbour. Hirado sits just to the north of a very narrow strait between Hirado Island and Kyushu Island and it was an exciting end to the day when the current suddenly added more than 2.5 knots to our speed as we made our way towards the harbour.
The old ferry pontoon was vacant and we were soon tied up and receiving a visit from Japan Coast Guard. All was in order so we could relax for a couple of days and enjoy the sights of this lovely island.
