We left foggy Amami Sunday morning, 0530, and arrived in fog-free Okinawa Monday morning 1030. We had a very comfortable passage with no fog, no rain and no thunderstorms. Not much wind either so all motoring. The forecast E/NE winds didn't eventuate instead they turned slightly W of South - almost on the nose - but quite light. The sky was relatively clear, the stars shone and the moon came up.
Visibility was the best we have had since we can remember! We could see islands 40NM away (80km) so were never out of sight of land. A big change from 2-5NM!
But now we are on typhoon alert as a tropical depression builds up east of the Philippines. The long range forecast predicts a near-super typhoon by Friday. The advice from the Philippines meteorological site Typhoon 2000 we find is very good We will be keeping a good watch on the weather sites as it develops - and we will be staying in this marina.
