We were up early this morning to leave Oshima for Tobata. Our overnight stay in Oshima proved very uncomfortable when following dinner the wind picked up from the southeast and came straight into the harbour we were in. The wind and swell pushed Tweed onto the wall all night long making lots of noise as the boat was bashed onto the fenders. The harbour is definitely not suitable when there is the likelihood of wind from anywhere in the south. The fishing boat harbour was almost like a mill pond in contrast but we were unable to tie up in there. Oh, well, we learnt the hard way.
We also had drizzly rain during the night which continued on into the day so a dismal day out on the water. Our destination at Tobata is in the long Yawata Harbour not far from Kitakyushu on the northern tip of Kyushu Island and to the west of the Kanmon Strait - the narrow passage separating Kyushu and Honshu Islands.
Visibility was quite low due to the rain and also from the heavy industry in this area.

We are tied up to a floating pontoon so hopefully it will be more comfortable if forecast strong winds for the surrounding sea areas penetrate here. Position: 33 deg 52.734N, 130 deg 48.516E.
