6/11/2011. We have made reasonable progress today and just recently this SW came out of the blue (or grey really). Never mind it is the first contrary wx we have had in 5 days and no doubt will pass quickly. We have been in calm seas all day while the breeze gradually died out around lunch time and we cranked up the iron sail. Going well at 5 k then 4 now 3.5 into the breeze with raincovers up and a secure cockpit.
Our next waypoint is on Cayman Point about 60 miles upwind. As there is no shelter we have decided to plug on and see what eventuates.
Plenty of food here, some fishermen called by this morning and we gave them some tins of spag and meat balls.
The wind changed about 1500 hrs to the SW on the nose & increased to 20 - 25 then some higher gusts so we hove to at 1840 - quite comfy, bit of a roll but can now make dinner.
7/11/2011. At 0315 we finally got underway again as the wind had dropped back to about 10 knots but the sea is still a bit lumpy and wind direction has changed to the SSE. Being hove too we lost ground so have to make that up about 10-12 miles. Never mind it wasn't too uncomfortable.
