An early start from Port Sinanguin this morning and a lovely day for a motor sail to Port Matalvi. We travelled 53 nautical miles under clear sunny skies with a light NW to help us along. Anchored just after 3:00 p.m. at 15 deg 28.733N, 119 deg 55.330E, between some fish farms. A small village but not much else although we do have internet coverage!
Watching the horizon today and what did we see? The Philippines to the east (hopefully), a bank of clouds building and then collapsing (yay), a few bangkas out fishing, flying fish gliding away from some unknown predator (why doesn't it choose our lure?), ships to the west plying the north/south shipping lanes... and then a big splash. What could it be? A fish? Another splash, then another, something shiny on the surface... get the binoculars... a whale!!! Wow!! We weren't very close but we called up Alishan following along behind and they came quite close and managed to get photos - a whale and a calf basking on the surface. It all helps to pass the time.
