Countdown to a New Year

We enjoyed a fantastic New Year’s Eve anchored in Patong Bay on the east coast of Phuket, where we had first class seats on our friends’ catamaran – an ideal vessel for viewing the night’s fireworks. These began before sunset and continued on into the wee small hours. They were amazing simply because of the lack of orchestration and the fact they were going off all along the beachfront, from single skyrockets to full blown displays, with the grandest event leading up to midnight. As all this was happening, literally thousands of rice-paper lanterns were launched into the air creating a fantasy which will be long remembered.
