An early start yesterday morning when we left Bolaang Uki at 4:15 a.m. A couple of hours later the wind came up a bit and we reefed the main and had the cutter out and the engine off and were sailing along nicely. The wind soon died though and it was back to the engine on and headsail in. Some flat motoring so made some bread and did some washing and then the wind again. So one of those days.
We arrived in the anchorage at Manado about 4:30 p.m. and it was very exposed and not very nice. A few hundred yards out and the depths fall quickly to 1200 metres. There is no real protection from the swell which had dropped a bit and a light 5 knot NW which we hoped would drop out as evening arrived. We were on a bit of a sloping bottom but secure in 11 metres good mud with a rock wall not far behind us.

Our night in Manado was not quite as bad as we thought it would be. The wind was light and the swell flattened somewhat so we managed some sleep! Manado is quite a big city with a population of over 1,000,000 people and 85% Christian. We noticed lots of churches with prominent crosses as we came along the coast towards it yesterday. Seemed quite affluent going by the number of late model cars around. The supermarket was pretty super with lots of goodies available. We didn't make it to the traditional market as it was a bit far.
Had a busy morning organising 160 litres diesel and doing a bit of provisioning plus Pam managed to fit in a haircut - first for a while.
By the time we finished all these chores it was 1.30 so we lifted the anchor and came 11 NM to Wori Bay. A bit deep here and not a lot of room with five yachts and some local fishing boats. One side of the bay is very shallow and exposed at low tide so not much to choose from.
We will probably leave tomorrow to get around the top of this part of Sulawesi ready to cross the strait to Ternate in the Halma Hera group of islands.
