Plans to set sail for Sarawak on the island of Borneo have been foiled!!
With just over a month to go on our boat insurance policy, our insurers
requested an extra $440 to cover us as we had not included Sarawak on our
cruising plan when renewing last year. We thought this was a bit outrageous
so we have decided to leave Tweed in the marina at Kuala Terengganu and hit
the road. We are leaving on Friday 10 July for northern Thailand and Laos -
flying to Kuala Lumpur then to Bangkok where we will board the train for
Chiang Mai. From Chiang Mai we will travel by road to Chiang Rai in the
Golden Triangle region of Thailand before crossing into Laos at Huay Xai
from whence we will take the slow boat down the Mekong River for 2 days to
finish up in Luang Prabang, the former royal capital and now UNESCO World
Heritage listed city. A few days here and we will continue to Vientiane and
then back to Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Terengganu on 30 July.
